I always wanted a Goffin's cockatoo so when my 10 and 12-year old
sons said they wanted a bird I told them they could have any bird
they wanted - as long as it was a Goffin's. I learned long ago -
don't get any bird for your children that you are not ready and
willing to have yourself - chances are it will wind up being your
bird in the end!
Junior is the only bird that we have gotten as a baby - all of the rest
were 'previously-owned' or 'hand-me-down' birds and they are absolutely
great! It is really quite alarming how many homes some of these
birds see in their lifetime.
Junior is everything I expected from a Goffin's - and more so! He will
lay on the floor on his back like a puppy and play with toys using
his beak and feet. He will do flips and somersaults and he runs
and hides and chews everything!
Junior also has the most advanced flight ability of all of our birds. I
trim him as extensively as I dare (I don't believe in trimming birds
so that they drop like a stone) but he is still quite able to fly
from his play stand in the living room to the play room - maneuvering
through doors and around furniture as though he had every flight
feather intact.
Junior is a joyous bird who will go to anyone and a very welcome addition
to our flock.
