Mac is the quintessential Macaw - loves to bluff about his ferocity and if you retract from his posturing - he owns you for ever! Of course if you call his bluff and boldly pet him anyway he accepts you (usually) and will soon come to view you as worthy of perching upon.

Mac came to us with a broken talon that healed incorrectly (hence the name MacClaw) and when we first got him he could not even perch correctly. Now he is a typical macaw acrobat hanging upside down to reach morsels or paper to shred from the bottom of his stand.

Mac has clearly mastered the art of mimicry. Not only does he have his own extensive vocabulary but he has assumed all of the phrases and noises made by the rest of the flock. When I hear "Hello, Dali" I am never 100% sure if it is Dali or Mac calling to me so I usually answer with something ambiguous like "Hi, bird!" After all - I wouldn't want Mac to know he fooled me - he already has an over-inflated ego!
